The Ultimate Keto Electrolyte Drink For Breastfeeding Mamas Video and Recipe
This keto electrolyte drink is the perfect way to get our electrolyte in throughout your day.
Electrolytes are an essential part of going keto while breastfeeding.
What are electolytes?
Electrolytes are a class of minerals found in our body that include Sodium, Potassium, Calcium & Magnesium.
You can get good quality electrolyte mixes that have all 3 of those minerals in them. But, sadly, there is no electrolyte mix that will have the whole amount you will need. This is why I create this DIY keto electrolyte recipe. This recipe is also so easy to adjust so you can make sure to get the levels you need.
WhY Do We Need electolytes When starting The keto Diet While Breastffeding?
When getting fat-adapted (going keto) our glycogen stores are depleted causing an initial electrolyte imbalance. (1)
Then, seeing we are also being depleted of water from nursing it’s REALLY important to get your electrolytes in.
What are signs of being low on electrolytes?
There are many signs of low electrolytes. Check them out below:
- low milk supply
- getting the keto flu
- low energy
- leg cramps
- nausea
- dizziness
- weakness
- anxiety
- muscle twitching
What levels of electrolytes are recommended while doing keto and breastfeeding?
Below are the recommended amounts of electrolytes we should aim for each day. Although, each mama is so different in the amount they need to feel their best. Pay attention to your body and do the amount that works best for you and your milk supply.
- Sodium > 3000-5000 mg
- Potassiam > 3000-5000 mg
- Magnisium > 500mg
How often should I drink this electrolye drink?
I always recommend sipping on this recipe every day, especially while doing keto and breastfeeding. As I mentioned above, adjust this recipe to help you get the number of electrolyte levels you need. These levels are so important that this is something I work with my mamas in the Keto Breastfeeding Method every day.
