Why I Started Resorts for 5
I’ll never forget one particular vacation.
We had finally arrived after a long travel day. The kids were tired, we were ready to unpack, and all I could think about was getting everyone settled into bed.
The resort staff opened the door to our room.
One king bed.
Two twin beds.
That was it.
We looked at each other wondering…
“Where is our fifth person supposed to sleep?”
Eventually, the resort brought in a mattress.
Not a rollaway bed.
Not another real sleeping space.
Just a mattress that barely fit on the floor beneath the table.
That moment completely changed the way I research vacations.
I realized something that I wish someone had told me years earlier:
Finding a great resort is easy. Finding a great room for a family of five is the hard part.
Since then, I’ve become the person who happily spends hours comparing room categories, reading occupancy policies, studying resort maps, and tracking which resorts actually offer rooms that comfortably fit five guests.

Just because a resort says a room “sleeps five” doesn’t always mean five people will sleep comfortably.
Sometimes the fifth guest is expected to sleep on a sofa. Sometimes it’s only allowed if one child is under a certain age. And sometimes the room technically accommodates five—but only after adding a rollaway bed.
That’s why I always look beyond the occupancy number and research the actual room layout.
